Edward Gardner & BBC Symphony Orchestra! Schoenberg's "Purified Night" Edward Gardner and BBC Symphony Orchestra New Recording! A collection of German orchestral songs centered around Schoenberg's "Purified Night"! The soloist is Australian tenor Stuart Skelton, who has performed with Gardner on many famous recordings! Gardner and the BBC Symphony Orchestra have been in the news since it was announced that he will succeed Jurovsky as principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021. Gardner and the BBC Symphony Orchestra have had a long and strong relationship, having performed the First and Last Nights at the BBC Proms, and have recorded many masterpieces, including orchestral works by Lutoslawski and Walton. This new SACD hybrid recording by Gardner and the BBC Symphony Orchestra follows Gardner's previous release, "Britten: Peter Grimes (CHSA5250)," and features a gorgeous collaboration with Stuart Skelton, the famous Australian Helden tenor of the moment. Stuart Skelton (CHSA5250).Gardner and Skelton's collaborations are also masterful, and the aforementioned "Peter Grimes" was named "Recording of the Month" for October 2020 by Gramophone magazine, as well as "Editor's Choice" by Presto Classical in the UK. He was also nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award for "Janacek: Glagolitic Mass (CHSA5165)". One of Schoenberg's masterpieces from the period before he moved on to atonal and twelve-tone techniques, "Purified Night" for string sextet (the composer's own version for string orchestra), as well as Oscar Fleet's "Purified Night" based on the same poem by Richard Demel, Lehar, Korngold, and others.
