Description:

Joshua Redman is an innovator in the contemporary jazz saxophone world. For the past few years, he has been active in a variety of styles and compositions, including collaborations with JAMES FARM, THE BAD PLUS, and Brad Meldor, as well as his own quartet, and he is now venturing into new sonic territory. In March of this year, he released "COME WHAT MAY," his first work as the Joshua Redman Quartet in about 20 years, and he will soon release a new studio album to follow it. On this new album, he features Patrick Zimmerli, a New York jazz/contemporary music composer and saxophone player. He divides his time between Paris and New York, and has collaborated with Brad Meldor, Brian Braid, Luciana Souza, Ethan Iverson, The Knights, and the Escher String Quartet, among others, on a wide range of jazz and classical music. He has also made orchestral arrangements for Joshua Redman's WALKING SHADOWS, and Brad Meldor and Kevin Hayes also featured his work on MODERN MUSIC (2011). Joshua Redman's selection of eight pieces from "APSECTS OF DARKNESSAND LIGHT," composed by Zimmerli for tenor saxophone, string quartet, bass, and percussion, premiered at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2014. APSECTS OF DARKNESSAND LIGHT, premiered at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2014, is a suite of compositions depicting various expressions of light. To record "SUN ON SAND," a collection of eight selections from this collection, Joshua collaborated with Scott Cawley (b), with whom he performed on "STILL DREAMING," New York-based Japanese percussionist Satoshi Takeishi (Satoshi Takeishi), and The innovative string quartet Brooklyn Rider, which transcends the boundaries of classical music. The first track from the album, "Between Dog and Wolf," is the second track on the album. The title of this song is a French word that means "twilight. A jazz saxophone cuts into the vibrant strings and creates a groove with the percussion and bass, blending linear orderliness and curvaceous grooves to create shades of sound. It is a song that reveals the horizon of new musical territory that Joshua Redman is challenging with this album. SUN ON SAND" is a new soundscape that Joshua Redman, an innovator in the contemporary jazz saxophone world, is opening up.
