Description:
American avant-garde musician and filmmaker Laurie Anderson tells the story of one female pioneer. AMELIA", an album consisting of 22 songs about the last flight of American aviator Amelia Earhart, who made history by becoming the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, is released. Analog is also released at the same time! Laurie Anderson is an American avant-garde musician and filmmaker. Already respected as a conceptual artist and composer since the early 1980s, Laurie Anderson has been creating works based on the violin and using cutting-edge technology and self-made equipment, Her violin-based work was a familiar presence in Lower Manhattan's music and visual arts performance circles, which also produced Philip Glass and David Byrne. She is now releasing her first new album since Landfall, a 2018 Grammy Award-winning collaboration with the Kronos Quartet. The upcoming release, AMELIA, is about Amelia Earhart, the American aviator who made history by becoming the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and her tragic final flight in 1937, when she would disappear in the Pacific Ocean during a round-the-world flight. Anderson, whom Pitchfork once described as "she who can see the future, begins by paying attention," wrote the lyrics and music for this narrative work, and the Czech orchestra Filharmonie Brno, conducted by Dennis Russell Davies, Anderson also worked with Anohni, Gabriel Cabezas, Rob Moose, Ryan Kelly, Martha Mooke, Marc Ribot, Tony Scherr, Nadia Sirota, and Kenny Wolleson to create this album. The lyrics of "AMELIA" were inspired by (Amelia Earhart's) flight logbook, the telegrams she sent to her husband, and what I conceived of as what a world-traveling woman might have thought," Anderson said of the work. AMELIA" premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2000, and has recently been performed in Europe in an updated form.
