SACD Hybrid Disc. Manfred Honeck conducts the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, of which he is the musical director, and proceeds with the audiophile favorite reference recording, "Pittsburgh Live! The third work of the "Pittsburgh Live! Bruckner's "Romantic" was recorded live by the Sound Miller team at its home base, Pittsburgh's Heinz Hall, in December 2013. The joint performance with the Thalys Scholars led by Peter Phillips was a unique program featuring Bruckner, Victoria, and Allegri's religious vocal works in the first half of the concert. The symphonies by Honeck are also as unique as one would expect. Again, the flexible tempo settings and expressive, rich phrasing were in full force, as was the Horneck style.For example, the second theme of the first movement, "the titmouse's titsipee," was intentionally sung at a very fast rhythm, and the rapid acceleration was a real feat of virtuosity, and the orchestra's ability to keep up with it was also astonishing. The combination of the two musicians' performance of Mahler, in which they sang to the rhythm and sang as much as they could, was also successful, but in this Bruckner performance, they have further deepened their technique. This is a must for Horneck fans and Bruckner lovers. King International
