Kung-Woo Paik, a pianist born in Seoul, made his concert debut at the age of 10 and moved to New York at 15 to study at the Juilliard School. After winning various competitions, she made her orchestral debut at Carnegie Hall. Since then, he has performed with world-class conductors and orchestras. From 2005 to 2007, he recorded Beethoven's complete piano sonatas. Now living in Paris, he surprised us with the release of Chopin's complete nocturnes in 2019 and Schumann's piano works in 2020 on Deutsche Grammophon, and now he brings us another delight with Granados' "Goyescas". This recording of "Goyescas" is a suite for solo piano composed by Spanish composer Enrique Granados. Goyescas" means "music in the style of Goya," and was inspired by Goya's paintings and tapestry sketches. Kun-Woo Paik was deeply impressed when he heard "Goyescas" performed by Alicia de Larrocha in New York as a young man, and almost half a century later, his performance of "Goyescas" has been realized for the first time.Pike's love of music had a lot to do with the fact that the recordings were made in his 70s rather than when he was a young man. For Pike, music and life are so closely intertwined that they are almost one and the same. Pike's "Goyescas" reveals new possibilities for his musical art and a new vision of piano performance. Pike took a long detour to arrive at "Goyescas," but along the way he discovered the essence of the romantic piano through Franz Liszt, and a knowledgeable Spain through his vision of French music, including the works of Maurice Ravel.
