Description:
András Schiff's latest work, winner of the grand prize at the 59th "Recording Academy Awards"! András Schiff - "J.S. Bach: Clavichord" "This instrument is my best teacher. A heart-warming collection of works on Bach's beloved keyboard instrument, the clavichord. András Schiff, one of the greatest masters of our time, has been faithfully pursuing his career and enjoying his time of maturity, and his long-awaited new work, following his previous work "Brahms: Piano Concertos No. 1 & 2," which won the grand prize of the "Record Academy Awards" in 2021, is a collection of J.S. Bach works entirely on the clavichord. In June of this year, the city of Leipzig awarded him the "Bach Medal," which is given to those who have contributed to the popularization of Johann Sebastian Bach's works. Schiff describes the sound of the clavichord, which is said to be Bach's most favorite instrument, as follows: "The clavichord is the instrument of the new world, of the noisy modern world. The clavichord, which is said to have been Bach's most favorite instrument, is a "new world, an oasis of quiet in a noisy modern world. Thanks to the clavichord, I hear and play Bach in a different way, with more precision and clarity. This is Schiff's first clavichord collection, and the recordings focus on Bach's early keyboard works, offering a taste of the sounds of Bach's time and the "cantabile art" of the clavichord. The 2-CD album opens with "Capriccio on the Departure of My Beloved Brother," followed by "Invention" and "Sinfonia," and ends with "Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue," a masterful performance based on deep insight into the work. In this recording, Schiff plays a replica of the 1743 Specken made by Belgian instrument maker Joris Potfrey. The recording was made in the chamber music hall of the Beethoven House in Bonn, Germany, and produced by Manfred Eicher, owner of the ECM label. Universal Music/IMS
