Martin Courtney, known as the frontman of Real Estate, the pinnacle of the US indie scene, releases his second solo album "Magic Sign" on Domino! Courtney himself has said that he envisioned these songs as the soundtrack to better days after the pandemic, full of relief and optimism. The album opens with "Corncob," a song with a pleasant pop sensibility and softly psychedelic guitar, followed by "Sailboat," which blends a noisy, pop guitar sound reminiscent of Yo La Tengo with soft vocals, and "Exit Music," a love song that closes the album, expressing both joy and late night sadness. Martin Courtney wrote, performed, and produced this album, which contains 10 songs expressing both joy and late-night sadness.The album was recorded, mixed, and co-produced by Rob Schnapf of Mant Sounds in Los Angeles, and mastered by Greg Calbi of Sterling Sound. Other guests on the album include Matt Barrick (The Walkmen), Oliver Hill, Kacey Johansing, and Tim Ramsey.
