German choral music master Frieder Bernius recorded a collection of Bach family motets with his hand-picked Stuttgart Chamber Choir. German choral music maestro Frieder Bernius recorded a collection of Bach family motets with the Stuttgart Chamber Choir, which he founded himself in 1968. Johann Christoph Friedrich (1732-1795), the fifth son of Johann Sebastian Bach, became a court musician at Bückeburg and is known as "Bach of Bückeburg. He left many instrumental pieces in the classical style, and the two motets recorded here are among his best-known works, especially "There is a Voice Calling, Awake," which uses the same chorale as his father Johann Sebastian's church cantata No. 140, BWV 140. On the other hand, Johann Christoph Altonicoll (1720-1739) was an organist and composer who was a pupil of the great Bach and wife of his daughter Elisabet Juliana Friedecker (1726-1781).After the death of G.S. Bach, he took in Gottfried Heinrich, G.S. Bach's son, and it is said that G.S. Bach trusted him and praised Altonicol's works. However, the recording is very rare, as it has rarely been performed until today. Bernius, who has recorded many choral works, gives a fine and beautiful performance of motets composed by Altonicoll, who studied keyboard instruments and composition and himself assisted the great Bach as a bass singer.
