Glosa welcomes Constantinople, an ensemble founded in Montreal in 1998 by Iranian-born Kiya Tabashian, who immigrated to Quebec at the age of 14 to study ancient Persian music. Constantinople, under the artistic direction of Tabasian, has produced a wide range of music from medieval and Renaissance, European, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern traditions, and has recorded music from the manuscripts of Ali Ufki, who was active in the Ottoman Empire. Wojciech Bobowski (also known as Ali Ufki), born in Poland around 1610, was a versatile musician, diplomat, clergyman, interpreter, and language teacher at the Ottoman court, and his profound knowledge made him an important mediator between the Muslim Ottoman Empire and Christian Europe. He was an important intermediary between the Muslim Ottoman Empire and Christian Europe.
