This richly poetic program, where pastoral fantasies rooted in Greek mythology intersect with the aesthetics of the Arcadian Academy founded in Rome in 1690, unfolds an idyllic dream world populated by gods, goddesses, shepherds, and nymphs. Alongside cantatas such as Rameau's "The Faithful Shepherd" and Handel's "My Heart is Troubled," the album includes instrumental works like Domenico Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas and Albinoni's oboe sonatas. It offers a diverse introduction to the charms of French and Italian Baroque music. American soprano Hannah de Priest, making her album debut with this work, has garnered acclaim for her Baroque repertoire through debuts with the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, and the Kennedy Center, among others. She was awarded second prize at the 2021 Chesty International Baroque Opera Competition. With her vivid yet delicate expression, she breathes life into these works. She is joined by the early music ensemble Les Délires, led by Baroque oboist Debra Nagy.
