Beethoven Cycle by Buchbinder at the 2014 Salzburg FestivalBluray is pleased to announce the release of a recording of Rudolf Buchbinder's complete Beethoven and Piano Sonatas concert at the 2014 Salzburg Festival. This is the first time in the long history of the Salzburg Festival that Beethoven's complete piano sonatas have been performed. The cycle was hailed as "a new interpretation of Beethoven, a feat that no one but he could have accomplished." This video captures the two days of performances. Buchbinder does not agree with playing the sonatas in numerical order, but wants the audience to experience the various contrasts in each piece. In this video as well, the early and middle sonatas are mixed with the long "Hammerklavier" from the later period to show the diversity of Beethoven's sonatas. Viennese pianist Rudolf Buchbinder entered the University of Music in Vienna at the age of 5, gave his first concert at the age of 9, and showed early talent at the age of 11, when he was introduced to the master classes of renowned piano teacher Bruno Seidlhofer.He won the first prize at the Munich International Music Competition at the age of 15, received a special prize at the Van Cliburn Competition at the age of 20, and won the Beethoven Competition at the age of 21, among other brilliant awards. At the age of 21, he won the first prize at the Beethoven Competition. Today, he is internationally acclaimed as a pianist in the Viennese tradition. Buchbinder's repertoire is wide-ranging, but Beethoven is at the center of his repertoire. Buchbinder has recorded Beethoven's complete piano sonatas twice, once for Teldec (1980/82, session recording) and once for RCA (2010, live recording). He has given 50 concerts of the complete works, always reading the scores carefully in search of new discoveries, surprising and inspiring his listeners. King International
