Italian husband-and-wife duo performs Chopin, Boermann, Debussy: Cello Sonatas! Sergio Partoria (cello) made his debut at the age of 16 as a soloist with the Orchestra of the Swiss Italian Radio Orchestra. He studied at the Alessandria Conservatory, the Chigiana Conservatory, and the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, and has released numerous CDs, performing as a concerto soloist and chamber musician in Italy and around the world. Elena Ballario is an Italian pianist and composer. Since 1987, she has been playing in a duo with her husband, Sergio Partoria. Chopin's Cello Sonata is his last major work, composed between 1846-7. Compositionally, it has many similarities to the Piano Sonata No. 3. The cello and piano are treated in a counterpoint manner, and the concerto-like development is a distinctive feature. It is a very popular piece among cello lovers. Boërmant's cello sonatas are known for the efforts of the virtuoso André Navarre to popularize them. Like Fauré, Boërmant studied at the Niedermeier School of Religious Music and worked as a composer and organist.In general, the composer is best known for his works for organ. Debussy's Cello Sonata, a work from the composer's last years, has impressionistic elements. It also contains lyrical and emotional elements and holds a very important place in the contemporary cello repertoire. The duo performance of the two couples is also excellent, and I am grateful to be able to hear these three pieces in this combination. The recording is excellent, and this is an excellent program that offers a true taste of chamber music. Tobu Shoji Co.
