Description:

RICHARD HOROWITZ, known for his 1981 masterpiece "EROS IN ARABIA," a miraculous fusion of indigenous Moroccan and Arabic Middle Eastern folk music and New York minimalist/avant-garde music, was born and raised in Tehran, Iran, and later moved to New York. Composer/vocalist SUSSAN DEYHIM, who worked with STEVE LACY, ANTHONY BRAXTON, and ALAN SILVA, and his life partner from 1985 to 1990, have released their previously unreleased material on vinyl on FREEDOM TO SPEND, operated by PETE SWANSON. A miraculous product of the underground music scene in downtown New York City, the music of the Berber and Gnawa people and the culture of Iran, where DEYHIM has his roots, were combined with the music of the North African nay (shakuhachi type vertical flute), which HOROWITZ learned while living in Morocco. The result is a miraculous combination.DEYHIM's unique vocals, sung in both English and Farsi or using indigenous vocal techniques from around the world, and his exotic and romantic sound that crosses over genres of music such as ethnic music, experimental music, minimal music, and free jazz from all over the world, are truly exciting! The exotic and romantic sound of the band is just as exciting! The exotic and romantic sound of this album is truly stimulating, and the band's music is a rare and precious record that shows that Horowitz had a completely different vision of the "Fourth World" while playing in JON HASSELL's band.
