Description:

Aura Asdal Rokknes (b.1983) is a saxophonist from Tromsø, northern Norway. He has studied with Lars Lien, Wiebeke Bryan, Jean-Yves Fourmaux, and Yon-Paul Inderberg, and works in both the jazz and classical music fields. He is an official ambassador of Parisian saxophone maker Henri Selmer and a member of the "Trio Brax Trio Brax" (LWC1248). Arctic Saxophone" is his second album with orchestra, after "Norwegian Saxophone" (LWC1162) with the St. Petersburg Northern Sinfonia conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo. Alexander Auroyen was born in northern Norway and lives and works in Oslo. Heart, Rising" is a three-part work in a "listener-friendly" style with clear melody and theme: "Autumn in Childhood," "Spring," and "All the Seasons Passing By. Alexander Manotkov was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Seven Portraits was inspired by the city of Arkhangelsk, known as the "City of the Archangels" because of the close relationship between northern Norway and northwestern Russia. The seven pieces are named after the seven archangels of the Eastern Orthodox Church, from Michael to Uriel. Terje Björklund is also a melodic composer, and her "Cantos" for string quartet, which was premiered at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics, has been arranged for string orchestra. He was born in Narvik, a few hours' drive south of Romsø. All three works were commissioned by Rokkonnes. Per Christian Skarstad (b.1972), who conducts the Tromsø and Baudou orchestras of the Arctic Philharmonic, is a founding member of the Oslo String Quartet. More active as a conductor, he is the artistic director of the Telemark Chamber Orchestra. Tokyo M-Plus
