Description:

Pianist/composer Ethan Iverson makes his Blue Note debut! Revisiting the pop/rock-influenced jazz style of The Bad Plus, the influential trio Iverson co-founded in 2000, while reflecting on and developing his own musical history, the work features bassist Larry Grenadier and legendary drummer Featuring a new trio with Jack DeJohnette, this is an engaging and exciting album. The previously released M-4 "For Ellen Raskin" is dedicated to the author of the Newbery Award-winning "The Westing Game" (Japanese title; "Uncle Sam's Legacy"), which was the prototype for Iverson's literary life, a 1978 mystery novel for children . Crime fiction and mystery literature are Iverson's second passion after music, and Ruskin's writing was one of his first introductions to the genre.Since leaving The Bad Plus in late 2017, Iverson has collaborated with iconic drummers Billy Hart and Albert "Tootie" Heath, recorded with trumpeter Tom Harrell and saxophonist Mark Turner, and worked with orchestras, big In addition to embarking on projects as diverse as composing for orchestras, big bands, and the Mark Morris Dance Group, Iverson's contributions to such publications as the acclaimed long-running blog Do the Math, The New Yorker, and The Nation have allowed him to explore his inspirations from a variety of perspectives. He explores his own inspirations. This album shares a style with the sound The Bad Plus has spent the last 17 years crafting, but there is no doubt that it showcases a very different trio, led by a more mature composer.Taking advantage of the unusually open schedules of DiJohnette and Grenadier, whose shows and tours were interrupted by the pandemic, Iverson took the opportunity to arrange studio dates with the two in-demand musicians, and his excellent understanding of each player's voice and talent, They made such a wonderful combination. Iverson exclaims, "It's great to hear Larry and Jack swing." With these two, you don't need a lot of material." You bring in something simple, more than a basic sketch, and they take over and make it sound great. It's like the great Blue Note recordings of the 50s and 60s: impressive songs, but not too many notes on a page," he commented. [Personnel] Ethan Iverson(p) Larry Grenadier(b) Jack DeJohnette(ds)
