The first release from Warner Classics of the complete symphonic repertoire by Michael Sanderling & the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the first release from Warner Classics of the symphonic repertoire by Michael Sanderling & the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, which created a profound image of Brahms that is very different from recent performances. Founded in 1805, the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester is Switzerland's oldest orchestra and is located in Lucerne's magnificent lakeside concert hall. It is the resident orchestra of the Lucerne Cultural Congress Center (KKL), a lakeside concert hall in Lucerne. There is an important personal connection between Brahms and Lucerne. After Robert Schumann's death, he visited the city once with Clara Schumann and also with his father. Michael Sanderlinck says, "The location of Lucerne, a central city in Switzerland, creates a connection with Brahms. Its proximity to the mountains and the beautiful Lake Lucerne ... you can hear it in Brahms' symphonies. You can hear his love of nature, the purity of the air. And in his First Symphony, I believe you can hear the sound of the alphorn, which Brahms first heard in Switzerland.So it was a great experience for the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and for me to bring out the sense of Brahms' emotions. I love working with this orchestra. Their players play very quickly, very intelligently, very willingly, and very emotionally. For any orchestra, a recording of a Brahms symphony is a milestone, something that should happen at least once in its history." He said. There have been very few recordings of symphonic works by the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, and now, after more than 200 years of history, a new perspective on the orchestra is being offered, especially in the late Romantic symphonic repertoire. While most of the recent performances have been described as "propulsive, attractive and flexible" with fast tempi and period interpretations, this performance by M. Sanderling may be better described as "a rich romanticism with a profound sound" like Brahms' performances until a short while ago. However, the lustrous sound of the violins and the contrast with the wind instruments are newly discovered here. This is made possible by the slow tempo and the large breaths of agogic that appear here and there. The orchestral works "Tragic Overture" and "Overture to a University Celebration" that usually appear in the margins are not included, but Schoenberg's arrangement of "Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor" is included here, which is also typical of Schoenberg.
