Petrenko & Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, new recording after a long time! Prokofiev-Myaskovsky Series No. 3! Born in St. Petersburg, Vasily Petrenko studied with Mushin, Temirkanov, Jansons, Salonen, and others, and has served as principal conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and artistic director of the Svetlanov Memorial Russian National Symphony Orchestra. In 2024, he will succeed Charles Dutoit as Music Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a post he will hold until 2030. Further progress is expected. He has released a number of recordings on the Lawo label with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2019. Among them, the unusual series of coupled Prokofiev and Myaskovsky symphonies (LWC1207 and LWC1215), recorded in 2018-19 and released over two volumes, were particularly well received. In 2020, however, Petrenko regrettably retired as principal conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic after nearly eight years. The series seemed to have been interrupted, but in 2024, a new work was recorded for the first time in many years.This release couples Prokofiev's last symphony, "Symphony No. 7," completed the year before his death, with the "Sinfonietta," a work for string orchestra that expresses Myaskovsky's light-hearted temperament. Petrenko's determination to fulfill his mission to raise Myaskovsky's international profile has brought this once nearly closed series back to life! Tokyo M-Plus
