Brazil in Concerto (Brazilian Music Series)" is a project launched by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote the works of Brazilian composers since the 18th century to the world. This program introduces various concertos and chamber music by Villa-Lobos, one of Brazil's most famous composers. The "Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra" is his last work for guitar, composed for the virtuoso Segovia, to whom he dedicated "12 Exercises" in the 1920s, and this work also reflects the wishes of the virtuoso. The work is an exquisite piece with a lyrical atmosphere and skillful technique. The soloist on this album is the maestro Manuel Barrueco. The Harmonica Concerto was commissioned by John Sebastian, a renowned harmonica player active since the 1940s. The piece is full of overtones, octaves, double tones, and various other techniques, and beautiful harmonica melodies are sung over complex rhythms. The Sextet and Quintet are pastoral and beautiful works that seem to have been influenced by the string and woodwind ensembles that were popular in France at the time.The sextet uses celesta, creating a mysterious atmosphere as the title suggests.
