Description:
A world of satire and delusion - Barry Kosky's new production of the opera "The Golden Cock" has just been released. King Dodon, once feared by the surrounding nations for his valor, is now completely bored and inert, while his vassals fear the threat of invasion from neighboring countries. Then an astrologer appears and offers a golden cock, which is said to flap its wings to warn the king in case of emergency. The play is a unique production full of satire and humor by the two geniuses Barry Kosky (director) and Rufus Didovishus (scenic design). The stage is full of satire and humor. Strange-looking characters traverse a desolate meadow that seems to be a visualization of King Dodon's mental landscape. Dmitry Ulyanov gives a magnificent performance as the buoyant King Dodon with his good looks and beautiful bass voice, and Nina Minasyan's bewitching performance as the Queen of Shemach, who entangles the King, is also a highlight of the performance. The up-and-coming Daniele Rustioni's baton brilliantly brings together the dense and mellow Rimsky=Korsakov music, which changes its hues like a kaleidoscope as the music progresses. Naxos Japan
