A collection of piano works by Latvian composer Petris Vasks. The "Four Seasons" on the album is one of the most frequently performed of his works, and is a beautiful work that shows his love of the changing Latvian landscape, from quiet snowy scenes to the early breath of spring, passionate summer, and quiet autumn. Pianist Reinis Zalinš has also created this album with two other world premiere recordings. Among them is "The Cuckoo's Call, Early Spring," which Vasks wrote for Zalinsch during the new corona pandemic, and which reflects his suffering and prayers for healing after contracting COVID-19 while composing it. Zarinsch is said to have sincerely cherished the memory of visiting Vasks' home after the piece was completed and listening to the composer's own piano. The other piece, "Cycle," is from 1976. Premiered by Vasks' childhood friend, pianist Talyvaldis Deknis, it is not a gentle piece of folk music, but a sturdy, muscular piece characterized by tense clashes of sound.The performer, Reinis Zalinš, is a Latvian pianist who made his debut at the age of 10 playing a concerto and has since been active mainly in Europe and North America. She actively introduces works from her homeland and has released several albums of Latvian music. Naxos Japan
