He was Principal Conductor of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden-Freiburg from 2011 to 2016, where he gave a number of outstanding performances. From the first recording in the series, "Death and Purification" and "Till Eulenspiegel," Roth has freely manipulated a large orchestra in pursuit of unique expression and brilliant sound, and his next recording, "Life of a Hero" became a big hit because he repeatedly performed it before recording, brushing up his expression.
