Description:
Claudio Arrau (1903-1991) was one of the most important pianists of the 20th century. This three-disc set contains some of Arau's favorite piano concertos, all recorded for the first time. Among them are two Brahms pieces, which he cherished all his life and often performed to the delight of his audiences. The first piece on this album was performed by Arrau at the age of 69. The sharp trills in the powerful opening movement give the impression of a steel-like spirituality, and after a dreamy adagio, the final movement, the Rondo, is also performed with a strong touch, depicting the intense music of both the young and the young Inbal. The second piece was performed by the 66-year-old Arau. From the beginning of the piece, which is full of tension in its soft sound, he painstakingly builds up the sound to create a huge structure together with Bourg. Schumann, also accompanied by Bourg, conveys the passion that builds from the opening to the final movement. The Beethoven with Bertini is the very essence of Arrau's work. The performance is a meticulous one in which every detail of the score has been carefully read. Naxos Japan
