The Amati String Quartet is based in Zurich, Switzerland (there is also an ensemble of the same name in Canada that actively performs Haydn, but it is unrelated to this group). Founded in 1981 by violinist Willy Zimmermann and viola player Nicholas Corti, the ensemble was active until 2009, boasting a wide repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary music and has released approximately 30 albums. This 2-CD set of six string quartets from Haydn Op.50 was awarded the "Choc du monde de la musique", a French CD prize.
