Description:

A personal admirer of Mendelssohn, Gose became the conductor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra after his death. He was active for a while in Leipzig, but due to the war, he returned to his native Denmark and founded the Copenhagen Music School. He later devoted himself to the development of Danish music as a composer and educator. His works are in the vein of German Romanticism, and especially his chamber music is strongly influenced by Schumann. Although Göse revised his own works many times, as in the "Novelettes," there is no evidence that he ever altered the string quartet of 1851, and even today it is not known why he left this work in its original form. This album also includes the finale of the Novelette Collection before it was revised, and one can sense Gose's strong feelings toward this work. The performances are by Ensemble Midwest, as in the first collection. Naxos Japan
