The fifth installment in the 2026 Satoko Fujii Orchestra series is “Orchestra Tokyo.” So much energy it won’t fit on a single CD! Hifumi Tamura’s “Kappa Ondo” is reborn!! Fujii performs three songs: “Karasu,” “Oni,” and “Kappa Ondo.” Tamura composed and arranged three pieces: “Kitsune,” “Jizo,” and “Noraneko.” By the time the three pieces—“Kitsune,” “Karasu,” and “Jizo”—were finished, nearly 50 minutes had passed. Originally, the plan was to play all the songs in the first set and then redo only the ones that didn’t go well in the second set. Come to think of it, since we kept the solos extremely short during rehearsals, I hadn’t grasped the exact total running time. “Oh no, we might have to make this a double album,” I thought. After a break of about 15 minutes, the second set began. The fourth song was Fujii’s “Oni,” followed by my “Noraneko” as the fifth, and finally the album’s title track, “KappaOndo,” which Fujii had worked on right up until the last minute to rewrite. Once all the songs were finished, both the band members and the composers were extremely satisfied with the result. The recording went smoothly as well, so I breathed a sigh of relief. ―――From the liner notes
