Famous as Buddy Holly's backing band, they lost their lead vocalist, Holly, in a tragic plane crash in 1959. After his death, a new lead vocalist joined the band and recorded some of the greatest rock and roll songs as if they were dedicated to Holly. Excerpt from the CD description: ----- This CD contains some excellent cover songs. First of all, "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu" is the high-life song. This is a hit cover song by Huey Piano Smith, an R&B pianist from New Orleans, Louisiana. Huey Piano Smith has been active since the 1950s with The Crowns, of which he was the leader. His specialty is bright novelty songs. He is also widely known for his influence on Dr. John. Apparently, covers of rock 'n' roll masterpieces are prominent on this disc.
