Jimi didn't just light the fire with his guitar; in August 1967 at the Hollywood Bowl, The Jimi Hendrix Experience was the opening act for The Mamas & The Papas in front of a packed house of 17,000. The trio consisted of Jimi and the original trio of Mitch Mitchell (d) and Noel Redding (b). Jimi Hendrix made his US debut at the Monterey Pop Festival in June, but his debut album, "Are You Experienced? had not yet been released in the United States. In front of a largely uninitiated audience, the band performed covers of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf, as well as many of the songs that would later become their signature tunes. The performance overwhelmed and shocked the packed audience. This is a rare live performance that has never been released, including on pirate recordings.
