Description:
Paul Butterfield joins Rick Danko, who was one of the first to start his solo career after the breakup of The Band, on his tour. Rick Danko was one of the first to start his solo career after The Band broke up, performing "Last Waltz" concert in November 1976. After that, he played solo shows and recorded a new album, but it was never released, and eventually joined The Band's reunion in 1983. However, during his solo career, he toured with Paul Butterfield in 1979, and their chemistry is so good that one wonders why they didn't leave this as an official recording. The most famous recording from this tour is the December 13, 79 performance in Boulder, Colorado. However, it is this performance in Huntington Beach, California, that is quite different.The credits say November '79, but it was probably recorded in 1978, and on that basis, the backing band is made up mainly of recording members of his solo albums, including his brother Terry Danko, as in the 1978 tour in Japan. The band will perform songs from his solo albums sparingly, but will include repertoire from The Band and Butterfield Blues Band, as well as rare cover songs by Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Paul Revere & The Raiders, Frankie Miller, and Randy VanWormer, The contents of this concert can not be heard anywhere else. The 20 songs on this album are more than enough to cover a concert in Japan. Unfortunately, the sound quality is not so good because it is an audience recording. Still, this is a very rare recording and deserves to be listened to by fans.
