The latest release from Eli Kessler, a one-of-a-kind, brilliant percussionist known for his collaborations with his longtime ally Oneohtrix Point Never! New York-based percussionist, composer, and sound artist Eli Kessler has released his latest album, *Icons*, on *LuckyMe*. He has previously released works on cutting-edge electronic music labels such as *EmptyEditions*, *ESPDisk*, *PAN*, and *ShelterPress*, and his previous album, *Stadium*, was named Boomkat’s Album of the Year. He has also expanded his scope of work by contributing to the score for the Safdie brothers’ masterpiece *Uncut Gems*, composed by Daniel Lopatin (a.k.a. Oneohtrix Point Never), collaborating with Laurel Halo, and composing the original score for director Dasha Nekrasova’s feature film *The Scary of Sixty-First*. Throughout the album, Eli himself performs drums, percussion, vibraphone, marimba, Fender Rhodes, and numerous other instruments. Guest appearances include visual artist Nate Boyce—a longtime collaborator—on guitar synth, and the album incorporates sounds recorded in China, Croatia, and various other locations around the world, including, reportedly, sounds from Tomigaya Park in Shibuya. Furthermore, this album is a conceptual work interspersed with fragments of various elements, including American abstract art, dreamlike ancient melodies, industrial percussion, 1920s American Jazz Age film noir, and the decline of empires. The domestic CD release includes a booklet with liner notes.
