Description:
British national treasure Stephen Isserlis, who has had great success with Dvorak (CDA67917) with Daniel Harding and Beethoven (CDA67981/2) with Robert Levin. His new project is the cello concertos of Prokofiev and Shostakovich, masterpieces of modern Russia! Isserlis will be joined by Paavo Järvi, son of world-renowned conductor Neeme Järvi and one of today's most widely acclaimed conductors! This is his first appearance on Hyperion with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr Symphony Orchestra), where he served as Principal Conductor from 2006 to 2013 and is currently serving as Conductor Laureate. The first track is Prokofiev's Cello Concerto in E minor (No. 1), which is highly original and requires advanced technical skills, and Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1, which was greatly influenced by Prokofiev's symphonic concerto (Cello Concerto No. 2). The last track includes the solo cello version of Prokofiev's Cello Concerto in E minor, arranged by Gregor Piatigorsky, who also gave the American premiere of Prokofiev's Cello Concerto in E minor, and the "March from Music for Children".
