Description:
Born in New York City in 1928, Gary Graffman is one of America's most celebrated pianists and is known as the teacher of Lan Lan, Yuja Wang, and others. He made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Ormandy. In 1979, he broke his right hand, but in 1980 he began teaching at the Curtis Institute of Music, and in 1993 premiered Rorem's Concerto for Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, which was followed by the premieres of many other works written for him. He served as Director of the Curtis Institute of Music from 1995-2005 and continues to be invited to give master classes around the world, teaching not only piano but also chamber music and other young instruments.His complete recordings for RCA and Columbia are included in a 24-CD box released this year, from which the Schubert albums recorded in 1965 and 1963 appear in Originals. The Wanderer Fantasy is the second recording of Schubert's music since his debut for RCA. The performance shows a solid formality and a pure musicality devoid of any feelings. Sony Music
