The haunting beauty of Giulini's "The Wife's Maid" is now available on CD! Giulini was music director of La Scala in Milan from 1953 to 1956. During that time, he made several recordings for EMI Italia. One of them is Pergolesi's interlude play "The Maid", which has been long awaited and is now available on CD. The performance is not pedantic, but it is fresh and full of the Italian atmosphere that only La Scala can offer. Giulini's conducting is also fresh. The beauty of Pergolesi's music can be fully appreciated. The coupling is Cimarosa's interlude play "The Chief Court Musician," conducted by Renato Fasano. The work is only 20 minutes long, but it is a comical story about music, which is also enjoyable. King International
