Orfeo Orchestra & Purcell Choir. The next release is the musical tragedy "Polydor" by Jean-Baptiste Stuc (1680-1755), who was born in Tuscany, Italy, and later became a naturalized French citizen. Stuc, a contemporary of Rameau, continued to write works with financial support from the ducal family in response to the Parisian taste for opera that had continued after Lully's death. The "Polydor" was written in 1720, after his emigration to Paris. Based on the myths of the Greeks, Thracians, and Trojans, it is a tragic tale of war, family, and love. Although arias and other excerpts have been recorded in the past, a recording of the entire work is very rare. Once again, Gerge Vaschhage and his handpicked Orfeo Orchestra & Purcell Choir give a high-quality performance.The soloists, including Judit van Van Looy and Tasis Christoyannis, are also excellent and will help you rediscover the charm of this little-known work.
