This SACD hybrid disc is part of the "PENTATONE OXINGALE Series," a joint project between the PENTATONE label and Canada's Oxingale Records label. This disc features the cello ensemble "Uccello," led by Matt Haimovitz, performing works by the great jazz masters. Haimovitz's rich interpretations of masterpieces by Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, David Sanford, and others open new doors. Of particular note is "Open Country Joy," composed by jazz-rock guitarist John McLaughlin.What a great opportunity to perform with McLaughlin himself! Cellist Matt Haimovitz, born in Israel in 1970, made his sensational recording debut in 1988 for Deutsche Grammophon with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Levine, He made a sensational recording debut with Deutsche Grammophon in 1988, recording with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Levine. Since then, in 1999, he has been performing on his own label, Oxingale Records, in a truly diverse program that ranges from baroque to contemporary, as well as jazz and rock, transcending genre boundaries."
