Born in Pennsylvania, he moved to Greenwich Village, NY in the early 60's and since then has been active with the same stance, boasting a career spanning over 50 years. MICHAEL HURLEY is a unique singer/songwriter popular among enthusiasts, whose songs have been featured in the HOLY MODAL ROUNDERS and YOUNGBLOODS of the same era, as well as in the VETIVER and CAT POWER of today. He is also loved as an illustrator with a tasteful style, as seen in his album jackets for the RACCOON label established by COLIN YOUNG and his own LP jackets released on ROUNDER RECORDS, which feature a werewolf motif. Solo guitar, banjo, and organ recordings include the beautiful instrumental medley "KENTUCKY 3" dedicated to the state of Kentucky, the great ballad "CHARONA" on banjo, and the dreary sounding "TENDER IS THE GUITAR" on organ, The album consists of old and new songs, traditional and original, including the first recording of the live favorite "BOONE AND JOCKO," the traditional ballad cover "CUCKOO ROCK," "LO BONNEY," and the gem of an instrumental "DRAGGING THE INDIAN. The album is made up of old and new songs, trad and originals. Again, recorded at his home studio, BELLEMEADE PHONICS in Brownsmead Hill, Oregon." BOONE & JOCKO" was recorded in the vineyards of the Sonoma, California winery GUNDLACH BUNDSCHU. Of course, the cover art was done by MICHAEL himself.
