The long-awaited new release from Khotin, the solo project of Edmonton, Canada producer Dylan Khotin-Foote, who builds chill-out to dance music that crosses between ambient and new age based on retro-inspired synths. Mixing distorted synths, breakbeats, and piano sounds with lyrical samples, field recordings, and other abstract fragments, Khotin arrives at a more deliberate, free, and playful work. the warmth and familiarity of Khotin's dreamy style is the new idea and framework, meet with natural occurrences and modest revelations. Dylan Khotin-Foote, who has been performing under the alias Khotin for more than a decade, has been changing his impressionistic electronic project as his life moves along.The club-friendly grooves of 2014's Hello World catapulted him into the heart of Vancouver's underground dance scene, while also showcasing an approach like 2018's Beautiful You, a downtempo remedy for DJ fatigue. His melodic sensibilities and playful ear for atmosphere remain the rippling core of the project's fingerprints, and whether beat-driven or ambient, Khotin's tracks have a distinct swirl that is recognizable on first listen. After the 2020 release of Finds You Well, his second LP on Ghostly International, Khotin-Foote found himself in the slower atmosphere of his hometown of Edmonton. His pre-Pandemic pivot to softer productions and a break from DJing had reduced his opportunities for Vancouver and club bookings overall, but his self-identified introverted nature was fine with that.
