Anti-totalitarianism fighter! Mehri Mehta! The art of Walter Kaufmann (1907-1984), ally of A benefactor of Indian classical music, who fled from the Nazis to India! A clear style that attempted to unite the East and the West Kaufmann was born in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, in 1907 as a Jewish child. He studied at the Berlin Conservatory with Schreker and graduated with a thesis on Mahler, but he was a hot-blooded fighter, protesting against his Nazi-loving professors, married a niece of Kafka, and became an assistant to Bruno Walter, composing and conducting like Mahler, before finally being forced by the Nazis to leave before World War II. He also founded the Bombay Chamber Music Society with his friend Mehri Mehta (father of Zubin Mehta, who had visited Japan with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra), and was a benefactor to the Indian classical music world. He aimed to combine the West and the East musically, and "Madras Express," recorded here, is regarded as one of his masterpieces. Please enjoy the stormy music of Kaufmann.The Regensburg Philharmonic Orchestra is the resident orchestra of the Regensburg City Theatre, and its current music director is Veselka. The orchestra is currently directed by Veselka, who is considered a young Norwegian hope, and his parents are Czech, making him a perfect choice for the program. MDG
