Fagerlund, Sebastian (1972-)

Description:

SACD hybrid disc of works by Fagerlund, who was also Composer-in-Residence (2016-2017) at the RCO, conducted by Hannu Lintu! Sebastian Fagerlund (1972-) is a Finnish composer. He is known for orchestral works written in a richly colored and resonant style that seems to counter the rigors of modernism, as well as concertos of great scale and high technicality, such as the Violin Concerto "Darkness in the Light" (BIS SA 2093) and the Bassoon Concerto (BIS SA 2206), which was performed at the 2016-2017 He was Composer-in-Residence at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw from 2016 to 2017. Commissioned by Tampere and the Philharmonic in Bergen, "Masonry" is a work inspired by a structure supposedly built for shamanistic rituals.Blowdown," which is blown by wind and water, was co-commissioned by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and the Galician Symphony Orchestra. The music, which begins with the darkly colored "Largo Misterioso" and is based on a slower tempo, also uses melodies from the opera "Autumn Sonata" (2014-16), based on a film by Bergman. The concerto for guitar and orchestra, "Passage," is a piece that he dares to consider as a strength, as "the quiet sound of the guitar is drowned out by the orchestral sound. It uses material from the solo piece "Kromos" premiered by guitarist Ismo Eskelinen (1971-), and features six uninterrupted movements: "Moderato con anima," "Intenso, Liberamente," "Espressivo," "Ritmico," "Brillante," and "Intenso.Hanne Lintu (1967-), principal conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, has won acclaim for his interpretation of today's music, including the NOMUS (Nordic Music Committee) award for his recording of Son Raif Rasmussen's Symphony No. 1 "Days at Sea," which he conducted with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra The company is also a member of the King International
