Sudbin's pianism shines through in this Metonel and Rachmaninoff SACD hybrid disc. This album is a collection of Metonel and Rachmaninoff solo works in which Sudbin excels. Although both are technically challenging, the album is attractive in that it includes the most popular of Metonel's works, the "Recollection Sonata" and "Tragic Sonata," as well as Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G minor. Although Sudobin is Russian, his soft and light touch, which is different from Russian pianism, is appealing and allows for a variety of tonal changes. The delicate composition and introspective interpretation of Metonel's "Recollection Sonata" are especially superb. The "Fairy Tale Op.51 No.3" is a piece that Sudobin, who was so taken aback by Horowitz's recording, had set his sights on someday playing. It is also very convincing. King International
