Recorded live by Oscar Peterson's regular trio (Martin Drew and David Young) at Kulttuuritalo, Helsinki, on the last leg of their fall 1987 European tour with Joe Pass. This is a dream come true, fulfilling Peterson's wish to concentrate on playing originals such as "Love Ballade" and "Cakewalk" and standards such as "Waltz For Debby. Oscar Peterson is one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time. He is famous for his incredible speed and dexterity, his precise and brilliant technique, and his dazzling, swinging style and grainy sound.He was called the "Maharajah of the Keys" by Duke Ellington, simply "O.P." by his friends, and unofficially the "King of Inside Swing" in jazz circles. As a jazz educator and advocate for desegregation, Peterson released more than 200 records and received a Juno Award and eight Grammy Awards (including one Lifetime Achievement Award). He was the first recipient of the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement and has been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the International Jazz Hall of Fame. He is also a recipient of numerous other honors, including Officer and Companion of the Order of Canada and Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France, among others. He is a jazz giant without a doubt. This is a luxurious album that allows you to enjoy Peterson's piano playing in the late 1980s, when he was entering the last years of his career, and the outstanding guitar playing of "virtuoso" Joe Pass at the same time.
