This time, the 50th anniversary edition of "FROM THE MARS HOTEL", the band's seventh studio album, was released in June 1974 as the second album on Grateful Dead Records, the band's own label! This is the 50th anniversary remastered edition of the original album with the latest remastering, 180 grams heavy vinyl analog! In the spring of 1974, the Grateful Dead successfully overcame a series of dizzying and painful periods to release "FROM THE MARS HOTEL", their second album on their own Grateful Dead Records label, following "WAKE OF THE FLOOD", a transformational album for the band. MARS HOTEL", the band's second album on their own label, Grateful Dead Records. In the eight months between the last album and the release of this one, the band has continued to captivate audiences with some of the most exploratory live performances in music history, including the first performance of their famous "homemade wall of sound," a 75-ton pile of equipment at the Cow Palace in their hometown of Daly City, CA. During that tour, they incorporated songs such as "Scarlet Begonias," "Ship Of Fools," and "U.S. Blues" into their live set list, and then recorded them again in the studio during a subsequent recording session, which took two months to complete. The album "FROM THE MARS HOTEL" was completed in two months. The album is filled with other timeless classics such as "China Doll" and "Loose Lucy," as well as "Pride of Cucamonga" and "Unbroken Chain," the last song on the Dead's studio album to feature Phil Lesh on vocals. The 50th anniversary edition of FROM THE MARS HOTEL, which will be released on June 21, six days before the original release date of June 27, will include a 3CD deluxe edition with demos and rare unreleased live recordings, a 180-gram vinyl edition with the original album recordings, and a 180-gram vinyl edition with the original album recordings. The 50th anniversary edition of FROM THE MARS HOTEL will be released in three formats: a 3CD deluxe edition containing demos and rare, previously unreleased live recordings, a 180-gram weight vinyl analog version containing the original album material, and a limited edition Zoetrope picture analog version. All of the remastered recordings here are based on master tapes that have been restored and sped up through the Plangent process, and are the latest remastered recordings by Grammy Award-winning engineer David Glasser. Grateful Dead legacy manager and audio archivist David Lemieux is also producing this 50th anniversary edition.
