It has been about 8 years since "Coruscating" was recorded in 1999, with lead player John Surman, bassist Chris Laurence, and a string quartet. Surman says that the music has developed with each performance, and that he now has the confidence to write songs for the string quartet or rely on the imagination of the members. This is a powerful work that allows the band to become more unified and complete the process of improvisation while each member plays more freely.
