Singer-songwriter J.S. Ondara, whose debut album on Verve, "Tales of America," was nominated for Best Americana Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards, is back with an early new release! Comprised of new songs written in direct response to the current global pandemic, the album was written and produced by Ondara while he spent a week at home in Minneapolis. It was born out of Ondara's deep need to produce it as a form of therapy during this incredibly uncertain time. As I'm sure it is for all of us, I realized that the period of isolation was wearing away at my sane equilibrium, and after being stuck in a mental rut for four weeks, I woke up one morning and spent three days writing these songs, then another three days recording them in a friend's Minneapolis I woke up one morning, spent three days writing these songs, and then spent another three days recording them in a friend's living room in Minneapolis. It was like vomiting words and melodies. I was under duress and had no control or thought. I wasn't trying to make a record or anything. I was just trying to provide myself with some sort of therapy. These are stories about the effects of isolation on whole populations; stories about personal, political, and economic scars.In crisis, the human spirit is laid bare, its instability preyed upon, and its resilience tested. So this record is not only a portrait of a strange time into which we have unwittingly fallen, but also a collective story of the human spirit navigating uncertainty," explains Ondara. Ondara's 2019 debut, "Tales of America," received widespread critical acclaim, a Tiny Desk concert, a television debut on CBS's "This Morning," a nomination for Best Americana Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards, and a 2019 Americana Award nomination, She was nominated for Best Americana Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards and won Best Emerging Act at the 2019 Americana Awards.
