Swedish mezzo-soprano Ulla Liklandel studied with Hildegund Roman-Becker in Wiesbaden, Bodil Gumors and Knuse Elimmer in Copenhagen, and also studied Lee Strasberg's acting method in Stockholm. She is currently based in Denmark, where she works as an opera singer and actress in musicals and children's theater. She sings Scandinavian songs with Danish pianist Katrine Penelop. Of the many works, Riklandel sings 19 songs that she feels are closest to her "heart". Swedish Newström's "Songs by the Sea," composed on poems by Ebba Lindqvist, Edith Sodergrand, Jalmar Gullberg, and Ragnar Jändel; Grieg's "Songs of the Heart," on poems by H. C. Andersen; Ernst Youssefson, Gustav Sibelius' four songs with poems by Ernst Jusufson, Gustav Floding, and Johan L. Runeberg as texts. Bena Moe is an organist, pianist, and singer in Denmark and Sweden.Several of the pieces from "Didactic Studies" (Op. 6, Op. 9) were featured in Katrine Penelop's recording of "Romantic Piano Works by Danish Women Composers" (DACOCD680).
