Jakob Bro

New Morning" is the new 2025 album by guitarist Jacob Bro, who has released numerous works on ECM and continues to build his unique sound. Jacob Bro's Large Ensemble, featuring Andrew DiAngelo, Bill McHenry, and others, features free improvisation on side A and original works by Jacob Bro on side B. The interaction of the group is essentially about listening and giving space. If there is a credo in this ensemble recording, it is this. Sometimes the soloists or small groups are up front, other times they perform as a large group unit. This group of musicians is bound together by old friendships and new friendships, relationships forged through two decades of collaboration on stage and in the studio, and their new recording reaffirms that relationship with free improvisation on side A and Jakob Bro's music on side B The new recording reaffirms that relationship with free improvisation on side A and Jakob Bro on side B. Jakob Bro's collaboration with two unique saxophonists, New York/Berlin-based multi-reedist Andrew D'Angelo and Danish alto legend Jesper Zeuthen, dates back to 2007. At the time, they appeared on the ensemble albums "The Stars Are All New Songs Vol. 1" and "White Rainbow" and performed together in multiple concerts. The core group includes Anders Christensen and Jakob Hoyer, who have collaborated in trios throughout their careers, as well as versatile Copenhagen-based improvisers Søren Kjærgaard, Kresten Osgood, and Jeppe Skovbakke. The recording session also features synth wizard Adi Zukanowicz, popular double bass player Matthias Petri, and tenor saxophonist Bill McHenry, a Paul Motian alumnus and band leader.Jacob Bro first heard McHenry playing with Reed Anderson, Andrew D'Angelo, and Ben Monder when he lived in New York many years ago.
