Description:
Andreas Hermanski and Emily Fend have been commissioning new repertoire from contemporary composers in an effort to promote duo works for guitar and clarinet. On this album, the duo performs a wide variety of works by four composers. An accomplished guitarist, Suzani's sonata is in three movements, with the second movement forming the heart of the piece. The first and third movements are light and rhythmic in sound, and develop a common motif with the second movement. The "Proud Cry of the Amazon Forest" by Italy's Giacometti uses instruments to symbolically represent the sounds of nature and depicts the crisis in the Amazon. The "Kafka Sonata" by Russian-born Fraydlin expresses a dark and complex psychological landscape, while "Fog over the Lake" features a melancholy, yet lyrical melody. Puerto Rican composer Sierra's Duo Sonata combines classical forms with contemporary musical language. Naxos Japan
