Lori Laitman is one of the leading contemporary American composers of vocal music. She has published numerous vocal works, including multiple operas, choral works, and over 250 songs. She has produced a wide variety of works, using poems by various poets and writers, sometimes using poems by victims of the Holocaust to raise issues, and this album also includes profound pieces using texts by such renowned poets as Elizabeth Bishop and Paul Celan, as well as her own poem "My First Grandchild Edward's Second The album presents a rich variety of works, from profound pieces with texts by such renowned poets as Elizabeth Bishop and Paul Celan to unique and personal pieces such as "A Short Song for Edward," which she wrote for her "first grandson Edward's second birthday," using her own poetry. In addition to including many world premiere recordings of her songs, this 2-CD set also features the most appropriate singers for the songs, and Laitman herself at the piano, giving an unmistakable picture of her as she is today.
