Description:

The BIS label has systematically recorded Schnittke's works since the composer's lifetime and has released valuable releases such as the complete symphonies. The series was suspended for a while, but we are pleased to announce the arrival of a new recording, the first in a series of recordings of the complete piano works. The jacket design, which is "the most famous Schnittke of BIS," is also still in good condition, which makes us very happy. The recording is performed by Nicolas Stavy, who has previously recorded Tishchenko (BISSA2189) and Shostakovich (BISSA2550). Schnittke's piano works are not numerous, but they span a wide range of periods, from the 1950s, when the composer himself described his "period of obscurity," to the 1990s, when he achieved international fame and simultaneously suffered from illness. The "Five Preludes and Fugues" and "Preludes and Fugues" are early works that show the influence of Shostakovich, and beyond that, one can also sense the shadow of Bach, one of the sources of Schnittke's music. Intense sound also makes its fullest appearance. The "Little Piano Pieces," written for his son Andrei, is centered on simple folk songs and plain writing, but with dry, dissonant intervals. The "Piano Sonata No. 2" is intense and passionate, yet has an indescribable darkness, while the "Five Aphorisms" is a work that is a joy to listen to, reflecting the language of Schnittke's 90's. Incidentally, the "Five Aphorisms" was written with the idea of reciting poems by Nobel Prize-winning poet Joseph Brodsky between the pieces. Incidentally, "Five Proverbs" was written with the idea of reciting poems by Nobel Prize-winning poet Joseph Brodsky between the pieces. This is a SACD hybrid disc release. Naxos Japan
