Description:
Katherine Wilmers studied with Andre Navarra and was the deputy principal cellist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in the 1970s. She began her research into the works of unknown female composers in 1994, when she gave a recital with musicologist Robert Philip. In the process, they discovered a series of valuable documents, including unpublished scores from the collection of the Royal Academy of Music and insightful diaries by performers of the time, which led to the recording of this album. Included here are works by seven composers, including "Mountain Airs" written for Wilmers, 12 of which are world premiere recordings. This is a significant piece that brings a long-buried musical heritage back to life in the modern age. Naxos Japan
