Robert Gundt, born in Switzerland and active in Vienna, was a highly successful pianist, teacher, and composer who published more than 60 works and left behind more than 100 unpublished but largely forgotten works today.Wilhelm Gross was born into a wealthy Jewish family in Vienna, where he received his musical education, and eventually moved to Berlin, where he had a successful career in film music, before moving to England and then to the United States following the rise of the Nazis. His song "Red Sails in the Sunset" was a big hit, covered by Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, and the Beatles. However, much of his work is also largely neglected today. Christian Imler, a native of Germany who has devoted himself to the discovery of unknown songs from German-speaking countries, and his longtime collaborator Helmut Deutsch, will unravel the fascination of these unknown works, which are strongly influenced by other genres such as jazz, while being in the late Romantic vein.
